The basics
What Is a Custom Balloon Installation?
If it hangs overhead, spans a room, takes a shape or carries a logo, it's an installation.
A custom balloon installation is designed for one specific room and built there, usually bigger or more structural than an arch, garland or column. Picture a ceiling of balloons over a loft dance floor, a cloud floating above a sweetheart table, a 30 ft arch across a shop front, a giant mosaic number, a walk-through tunnel or a logo sculpted in balloons for a launch. It's the point where balloon decor turns into balloon art and transforms the whole space.
Since every room is different, installations start with measurements and a design, not a menu. They make sense when the space is large, the event is high-profile, or you want something guests haven't already seen on their feed. For standard pieces, start with balloon arches, garlands, walls, columns or backdrops.
What we install
Types of Custom Balloon Installations
These are the installations New York venues, brands and hosts request most.
Balloon ceilings
A balloon ceiling fills the air above the guests: helium balloons resting against the ceiling with ribbons trailing down, air-filled balloons hung upside down at varied heights, or garlands swagged across the room. It turns a plain hall, a school gym or a bare loft into an event space, and it's a favorite for prom, bar and bat mitzvahs, quinceañeras, weddings and holiday parties.
Hanging balloons, canopies and chandeliers
Garlands hung over a long table, a canopy above a dance floor or a tent, and balloons wrapped around an existing light fixture (or a balloon chandelier built on a hoop) put the decor at eye level and above, which saves the floor space New York rooms never have enough of.
Balloon clouds
A balloon cloud is a soft mass of white and clear balloons, sometimes touched with pastel or metallic accents, hung over a table or set behind it as a backdrop. Cloud nine birthdays, baby showers and dreamy wedding tables use them most.
Balloon drops
A balloon drop lets hundreds of balloons fall from a net or bag overhead at a set moment: the midnight countdown, a gender reveal, a grand entrance, the end of a graduation or a product reveal. The net is rigged before guests arrive and released by a pull cord on cue.
Balloon sculptures and balloon art
Balloon sculptures take a recognizable form: a giant number, a cake, a sneaker, a mascot, a logo. For galleries, schools, pop-ups and brand activations they can be built life-size or larger, and designed in sections that fit through a freight elevator.
Balloon trees, palm trees and topiaries
Balloon palm trees for luaus and pool parties, topiaries for formal events and balloon Christmas trees for December lobbies and office parties are freestanding pieces. They work like balloon columns with a shape on top.
Balloon tunnels
A tunnel is a run of arches set close together that guests walk through. It's a showstopper for a wedding entrance, a school hallway, a fun-run finish or a store launch, and it works well in long loft corridors.
Balloon mosaics, number towers and marquee letters
A mosaic is a number, letter or shape frame packed with small balloons, like a pixel picture made of latex. Mosaic numbers and letters spell out an age, an initial or a class year, and marquee letters wrapped in balloons add light. They're among our most-requested pieces for birthdays, mitzvahs and graduations.
Balloon wreaths and giant balloons
Wreaths frame a front door or a sign. Giant 36-inch-plus balloons, sometimes filled with confetti, make the big moment at gender reveals, proposals and photo shoots.

Process
How a Custom Installation Comes Together
Bigger builds take a little more planning, especially in New York buildings. Here's the order it happens in.
- 1
Brief
Tell us the event, the date, the venue and the idea. Photos, mood boards and brand guidelines all help.
- 2
Space and building details
We confirm dimensions, ceiling height, rigging points, power, the freight elevator, load-in and load-out times and venue rules, by visit or by photos and measurements.
- 3
Design and quote
You get a design plan and a written quote. Large installations are priced by scope rather than by the foot.
- 4
Build day
We load in during the venue's window, build on-site and walk the room with you before doors open.
- 5
Strike
We take everything down at the end of the night or first thing the next morning, whichever the venue requires.
Venue rules to ask about early: most Manhattan hotels, lofts and event spaces set fixed load-in and strike windows (sometimes overnight), want a certificate of insurance naming the venue and its management, limit helium tanks indoors, ban tape on walls, and need approval before anything hangs from the ceiling. Some require their own crew to do the rigging, and nothing ever hangs from sprinkler pipes. We sort these out before quoting so build day holds no surprises.
Pricing
How Much Do Balloon Installations Cost in New York?
Custom installations start at $550 and scale with size, rigging and labor.
| Installation | Starting at |
|---|---|
| Balloon mosaic number or letter, 3 ft | $275 |
| Balloon mosaic number or letter, 5 ft | $475 |
| Custom balloon installation | $550 |
| Marquee letter or number rental | $60 each |
| Ceilings, drops, tunnels and sculptures | Custom quote |
Large installations are quoted after we review the space. Overnight load-ins, union venue requirements and same-night strikes can add to the total.
How much do people charge for balloon decor at this scale? It depends on the square footage or length covered, the number and size of balloons, rigging and ladder or lift needs (ceiling height matters), helium, crew hours, after-hours load-in, insurance paperwork and how quickly the venue needs it gone. Send your venue and ceiling height and we'll scope it properly.

Timing
How Far Ahead to Book a Balloon Installation
Give large installations three to six weeks.
Smaller pieces, like a mosaic number or a home balloon drop, can usually be booked one or two weeks out. Ceilings, tunnels, sculptures and anything in a hotel, loft or event venue need three to six weeks for design, venue approvals, insurance paperwork and custom balloon orders. December weekends, New Year's Eve, prom season in the spring and June graduations fill up first. Are balloon releases illegal in NY? Suffolk County on Long Island has banned intentional outdoor releases since 2019, and state lawmakers have moved to curb them too. We don't do releases at all; for a big moment we suggest an indoor drop or a confetti balloon pop instead.

Questions
Custom Balloon Installations in New York: FAQ
How much do people charge for balloon decor installations?
Our custom balloon installations start at $550. Mosaic numbers start at $275 and marquee letters at $60 each. Ceilings, drops, tunnels and sculptures are quoted per project based on size, rigging and labor.
What is a balloon ceiling?
It's balloon decor that covers the room from above. That can mean helium balloons pressed against the ceiling with ribbons trailing, air-filled balloons suspended at staggered heights, or garlands looped from wall to wall.
What is a balloon drop?
A balloon drop releases hundreds of balloons from a net or bag overhead at a planned moment, like the New Year's Eve countdown, a gender reveal, a grand entrance or a last dance.
How many balloons are needed for a balloon drop?
About 100–250 for an apartment or small room. A dance floor or ballroom takes 500–1,500 or more, depending on the drop area and the ceiling height.
Are balloon releases illegal in NY?
Suffolk County has banned intentional outdoor balloon releases since 2019, and New York State lawmakers have moved to restrict them as well. We don't do outdoor releases; an indoor balloon drop or a confetti balloon pop gives you the same moment.
Where can I get balloons filled in NYC?
Party stores and balloon shops across the city fill helium balloons for pickup. If you'd rather not carry a bouquet home on the subway, we deliver balloon decor ready to go, and air-filled pieces need no helium at all.
How far in advance should I book a balloon installation?
Three to six weeks for ceilings, tunnels, sculptures and venue installs, longer around December holidays. One to two weeks for smaller pieces like a mosaic number or a home balloon drop.
Do New York venues allow balloon installations?
Most do, with conditions. Venues commonly require a certificate of insurance, set load-in and strike windows, and may restrict helium, tape and ceiling rigging. We confirm the rules with your venue before quoting.
What is balloon art?
Balloon art covers sculptures and large designed pieces made from balloons, from giant numbers and logos to characters and full installations. It's a different craft from twisted balloon animals at a kids' party.
